This is one of the fastest and most fun ways to play a variation of 5 card stud poker. As a player you make your initial bet and 3 cards are dealt face up. Looking at your 3 cards, you can make a decision as to whether you want to keep your bet as is or reduce it by 1/3. Then a face up community card is dealt and again you have the option to keep your bet or reduce it again by 1/3. Then the final community card is dealt face up. If you have dropped your bet on both occasions the most you will lose is 1/3 of your original bet. So you can play longer and lose less $ or a better way to look at it is you can play longer and WIN MORE $$!
